Status Holder comes as a ZIP file. This keeps the download small and fast, but a ZIP file is just a compressed archive. Before you launch Status Holder, you’ll need to unzip it. Here’s why that’s important and how to do it in just a minute on Windows 10 and 11.
Why You Shouldn’t Run the “Holder” Directly from the ZIP File
Windows lets you open a ZIP file by double-clicking it and launch the program file inside it directly. This seems convenient, but there’s a catch: Windows only extracts the program temporarily into a temporary folder. Anything that the Status Holder saves ends up there as well.
The result: Your settings and your Premium code might just be gone the next time you launch the app. If you extract the “Holder” file correctly, that won’t happen.
How to Extract a ZIP File in Windows 11 and 10
You don’t need any additional software to unzip the files. Windows has everything you need.
- Download: Download the Status Holder from the download page. The ZIP file is usually saved to the ” Downloads” folder.
- Right-click the ZIP file: Open File Explorer, locate the file, and right-click it.
- Select “Extract All…”: In Windows 11, this option appears directly in the context menu; the same applies to Windows 10.
- Specify the destination folder: Windows suggests a folder next to the ZIP file. It’s better to choose a fixed location, such as Documents\Status Holder. Leave the “Show files after extraction” checkbox selected and click Extract.
- Launch Status Holder: In the new folder, double-click the extracted EXE file to launch it.
Tip: To quickly find the Status Holder, create a shortcut on your desktop. Right-click the EXE file, select “Show more options” in Windows 11, then Send to → Desktop (Create Shortcut).
Alternative: Extract using 7-Zip
If you’d rather use your own archiving program, that works just as well. With the free 7-Zip, right-click on the ZIP file and select 7-Zip → Extract to “Status Holder …”. The only important thing is that you then run the EXE file from the extracted folder.
Common Problems and Their Solutions
My settings or the Premium code are gone after I restart
The Status Holder was almost always launched directly from the ZIP file. Extract it as described above, launch the extracted EXE file, and re-enter your code. Our “Activate Premium” guide shows you how to do this.
“Windows has protected your PC”
This Windows SmartScreen warning may appear for programs downloaded from the Internet. Click ” More info ” and then ” Run anyway.” Always download Status Holder from statusholder.com.
“Extract All” is missing from the context menu
In that case, a different archiving program is set as the default for ZIP files. Double-click the ZIP file to open it: In File Explorer, you’ll find the “Extract All” button at the top of the toolbar. Or you can use the archiving program that’s set up on your computer.
The code cannot be verified because the network is blocking the connection
In some company networks, access to our server is blocked. With the Offline Converter, you can convert your license key into an offline code and activate Premium without an internet connection.
In a nutshell
- Never run Status Holder directly from the ZIP file.
- Right-click the ZIP file, select “Extract All…,” and choose a folder.
- Run the extracted EXE file—that’s it.
